Programme: The 11th Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau Youth

Leadership Summit

Partner Institution: Wuhan University

Period: June 23—30, 2023

Young delegates from universities in the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau gathered under Mount Luojia to kick off the Summit at the opening ceremony. The eight-day event allowed me to appreciate Wuhan's unique historical and cultural heritage and its profound humanistic atmosphere. Wuhan University's History Museum, with its valuable historical photographs and archival materials, vividly reflected the history and scientific achievements of the university's founding. The Wanlin Museum, with its tens of thousands of animal specimens, introduced me to the diversity of species. The Hubei Provincial Museum's treasure, the Sword of King Goujian, demonstrates the level of bronze ware production during the Spring and Autumn period. The Zenghouyi Chime Bells embody the ideas of Western Zhou ritual and music culture. The museum tour provided me with a fascinating study of Chinese history.

The Jianghan Pass Building, a landmark in Wuhan, is a testimony to the imperialist invasion of China and bears historical significance. The Youth Cup debate allowed us to exchange ideas, learn to listen to other students' perspectives, appreciate each other's differences, complement each other's strengths, and make progress together. In doing so, we can contribute to the cooperation and development of the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau in the future. During the consultations, I also learned to explore solutions to global climate issues.

Furthermore, I learned more about the history of Ancient Longzhong in Xiangyang, where Zhuge Liang lived in seclusion during his youth. Longzhong is also the setting for the popular story of the Longzhong Pair and Liu Bei's three visits to the thatched cottage. Moreover, I could travel back in time to the Tang Dynasty by wearing Chinese costumes and strolling through the beautiful palaces in China Tangcheng. This trip to Xiangyang has given me a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture, and I have gained a greater appreciation for Chinese culture.
