I participated in Fudan University SOE Online Winter School during this winter, taking two economic courses, i.e., Econometrics and International Finance. This winter programme built up a more profound and more professional China vision towards the International economy. In Econometrics class, I learned how to use stata to analyze complex statistics to explain different world phenomena. In the International Finance course, I gained knowledge about the exchange market, which is very closely related to economic events around us. It also helped me understand the macroeconomics and financial linkages between countries.
Besides, I am impressed by the academic atmosphere among classmates from all over the world and Fudan’s teachers' professionalism. Professors made intricate knowledge enjoyable in class, while TAs are always friendly to answer our questions and support us. The teaching method is quite different from that of HKU. I felt deeply impressed.
The overall structure of the programme is appropriate and well work-life balanced. One course starts at 9 a.m, and the other is in the evening. Thus, I could review the course material or have a rest in the afternoon. My winter was fulfilling and meaningful.
Although the China vision trip was held online due to the covid-19 pandemic, it is an excellent opportunity to make new friends and meet different people in other universities. For example, I made friends with one student from HKUST and another from The University of Auckland by discussing difficult math problems. I felt very warm and happy since I have so many nice peers studying with me this winter.
Therefore, I would strongly recommend this programme to business students interested in the Chinese economy or international economy. Additionally, I would also suggest the China Vision Team advertise to more students through HKU Business School since it is an excellent opportunity to equip students with useful business knowledge and broaden their horizons.
